I saw a post earlier about the Washington DC State Quarter asking if it was a die dent or die clash and coop posted a great picture of the obverse and reverse where the clash would have taken place. Is this quarter a result of a die clash as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated. http://www.flickr.com/photos/260239.../5589442195/~Chris

The clash doesn't work for this one. What do you think it is then?

Coop, Ha ha. I was looking for his quarter pic and when I saw your overlay I thought for a second that that was the coin in question and my draw dropped to the floor. I woulda been willing to pay boucoup bucks for something like that!

Is the area in question raised or sunken into the planchet? Raised it would be a die issue like a die chip. Sunken into the coin it could be PMD or a struck through.

It's sunken, but it's not a PMD and unlikely a struck through, because I have about 40 of them and they all have the same markings. I got them out of coin rolls.

Sounds like die damage to make so many of them. Did you find 40 in a roll or several rolls combined?

I found something different one time: It was detemined to be a die gouge or a tooling mark. Too bad I found several of these. They are easy to spot in rolls as they looked like proof coins in luster, but were just business strike coins. Again these were not proof coins, they were just extremely shiny. it made them stand out and easy to find compared with other coins in the OBW rolls.
