Whatzit?-I-Have-No-Clue.

20.68 grams, silver dollar size, reeded edge, another one acquired as part of an auction lot. I don't have a reference that goes back this far, so I have no idea as to what it is. The Cuds along the obverse edge look suspicious to me. Help?

Lots of fakes out there but it should be a Prussian Thaler.

Prussian King Frederick I (1701-13).

That's what I was looking for - a starting point, Bluntedbobylon. Thanks. I do have a "Standard Catalog of German Coins" that shows it as KM #78. However ... the Catalog shows it with denticles on both the obverse and reverse, and unless the Cuds on mine count as denticles, I do believe I have a fake on my hands, dang it. BTW meant to show the edge, not an identical scan of the obverse, so ...

And now the plot thickens. This site shows photos of a 1707 Prussian thaler with the EXACT Cud pattern as mine, and NO denticles. The text indicates that the photo was taken by a Samuel Ho in 2010, so if both our examples are fakes, they no doubt came from the same source. This site also quotes the weight as 21 g, which is very close to my coin's 20.68. If my example is indeed genuine, I have a coin worth well into four figures, so I'd sorta like to determine whether or not mine is real.

I agree, echizento. And I strongly suspect that the site that I listed above shows another fake just like mine. Neither looks "old", IMHO.

That's a pretty good looking fake.
