Ok, so it's been 3 years since my last trip to the US, and in that time I've gone from a Student with a big interest in coins to a full time dealer. I'm really hoping to get a good trip to the US later this year, its' been too long! - and would ideally love to catch a coin show or two. Obviously there will be a lot of dealers and displays focused on US coinage, but I was just wondering how much world material is there on offer? anyone picked up any bargains on world coins and medals? And can anyone recommend any particular shows - perhaps around fall? I might be able to make the worlds' fair of Money in Chicago - worth a visit? Any opinions or experiences would be helpful. Thanks! www.kingstoncoincompany.co.uk

If you are planning on being in the Chicago area there are coin shows on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays of every Month just outside Chicago. The 1st one is in a place called Lemont, Illinois. The second is really a sort of Monthly big one at: Quote:Chicago's Largest Monthly Show with over 10,000 square feet of floor space. With dealers from 5 Midwestern States. Dealers buying and selling US coins, World Coins, Ancient Coins, Coin Supplies, Jewelry, and Collectibles Shows Held 2nd Sunday of the Month 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Location: Park Place of Countryside Banquet Hall 6200 Joliet Road, Countryside, IL 60525 Free Admission - Smoke Free Room Wide Aisles - Lunch Served There is one there this Sunday and I go to them all. The one on the 3rd Sunday of every Month is in Itasca, Illinois and I never miss that one for sure. That is the one I usully get the best deals on coins, coin books, etc. Supposed to be a few even bigger ones coming up and I usually get flyers for those but so far haven't received them. If you need info on how to get to any of these, let me know and I'll get you some really easy directions since I live near all of them.

Odd I must be getting old. I just looked up and right here in front of me was the add for one of the really big ones. Quote: Chicago International Coin Fair Welcome to the 36th Annual Chicago International Coin Fair -- April 14-17, 2011 Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare, 5440 North River Road , Rosemont, Illinois 60018
Glad they moved it to the Hotel accross from the Convention Center. Used to take forever to park, cross the street, roam around trying to find which area the show was in. This one too is really easy to get to for almost anyone. Rosemont made sure of that. It is really big and I really don't like that one to much and every year I complain about it but go anyway. Last time I was there it cost $11 to park, $5 to get in, dealers had the highest prices possible. Now that it is in that Hotel will be more fun and easier to find things. Scarry how big this show becomes. And if you plan on going to the one you mentioned, go to their web site for this: Quote: $2 Off $6 Non-member Admission by Webmaster on 24-Mar-11Grab this coupon for a $2 discount at the Chicago World's Fair of Money.

That's been a long time ago.

Might be that Worlds Money Fair I was thinking about. Either place is way to expensive for me. I just can't see paying that much to park and not about to walk from the train station parking lot.

The Countryside show is this weekend so I'll check there for world coins and medals to see if they are there along with US coins. And in the fall, there is always that coin show on the 2nd Sunday. If your planning on being in the area there are numerous coin stores to check out also. One I know of has an extensive quantity of foreign coins and artifacts.

At todays coin show in Countryside, Illinois, I noticed about 15 dealers with foreign coins. Also, about 5 with currency of the USA and one with foreign currency. Not knowing anything about foreign stuff I have no idea if good, great, bad or what. Just a real lot of coins from places I can't pronounce usually. Also, one with lots of jewlery, one with things I did not recognize, many, many with Gold coins. Again, this show is on the 2nd Sunday of every Month and I saw a flyer on the front table about a 2 day holiday special coming up in the fall.

Thanks so much for all the info. Just Carl, thats all really helpful, thanks. I'm definately thinking i'll be in Chicago for at least a few days, so when I come to sort the dates i'll try make them fit. Certainly i'll probably give you a message for help with directions etc, and a list of a few coins stores would be great!
It's likely i'll probably be in New York as well, possibly Vegas and depending on how long I manage to make the trip, might make it to the West Coast, though unsure so far. There are so few coin shops here in the UK, and so relitively few fairs, the largest of which has only about 90 stalls, I'm really keen to see some of whats on offer in the US

Keep on posting in this forum so we all know how your doing. And for foreign stuff there is one really big sort of coin store right in the center of the Chicago area. And I mean stuff. Last time I walked by there they had items from ancient Egypt. Coins and stamps from all over the world too.

There are a lot of shows in the US, shows every weekend. But the country is so large that even with shows every weekend unless you live in a highly populated area there may only be a few shows a year close enough to get to. In the US a 90 dealer show would just be consider to be a mid sized show. The Chicago international show in Chicago this coming weekend will have about 120 dealers, the Central States Show in Chicago next week is a regional show with tow to three hundred dealers, and Worlds Fair of Money show in Chicago in August will have about one thousand dealers manning over 700 booths.

At a coin show last Sunday I found flyers for some more coin shows. One in June 30th to July 2 and another one in September 8 to 10. Both are in a place called Tinley Park, far Southern Suburb of Chicago. The June/July show has about 250 dealers, the September one has about 220 Dealers. Both are in the Tinley Prk convention Center, 18501 S. Harlem Ave. Free Admission, Free Parking. Both are from Thursday to Saturday so as not to Interfer with the normal Sunday Shows around the Chicago area.
