I was thinking au-50 when I bought it as well. NGC graded it XF-45. I dont really know how to
spot light cleaning yet, I saw the dirt under the hair and date, but I figured if it was cleaned,
it must have been a long enough time ago that more dirt appeared there?
Rest in Peace

It kind of looks cleaned to me, but NGC slabbed it so it must not be much of a cleaning. Nice coin!

I would actually think AU-53 great detail on the feathers and hair is not too worn. Eagle's breast has some obvious wear but still showing good feather detail on the periphery.

one has to remember that coins on any given day can get a different grading, and the standards over time flux up or down...in any event I would agree this coin is about AU53, as there is some chest feathers present despite some wear....Unless the grader gave a net grade for the over all coin,@XF45 I have seen many graded coins in AU that have far more noticeable wear...and then I have seen AU55 coins with full feathers and talons....that don't make the MS ratings in today's grading by TPG's....one would think there would not be such a swing, but there is....one must use there won judgement "buy the coin" not the holder..if your selling (LOL) get the label grade pricing...

The 45 grade is likely due to limited luster and any cleaning this coin had was judged to be market acceptable. It's a nice looking CC Morgan.

Seems like perhaps NGC saw some evidence of a dipping (embedded dark toning in areas the dip missed), decided it wasn't enough to bag the coin, and gave it a "safe" grade.
