OK, I've been doing this about 2 weeks now. I searched through probably 300 dollars in my house of coins. found only one silver dime and some wheaties but those aren't worth much.
1st find 1964 dime
in the past 2 weeks I have found 3 silver dimes total. just found one today actually a 1940 mercury oldest find yet haha
so anyways my friends don't get my jokes anymore i tell them my coin stories like how I go to the grocery store and ask if I can get 10 dollars in rolled coins. they always give them to me
today the one cashier told me they can't so I went to another in teh same store and asked her and she said she would do it... 1940 MERCURY BABY OH YEAH
so ya anyways my friends dont get these stories, but I read stories on here and its like a whole new form of comedy. so anyways I also found another 1955 dime or something... so 3
didnt find any quarters, but I've gone through a lot went to the bank yesterday got 20 dollars in halves and 20 in dimes... found nothing
the bottom line is 3 finds 2 weeks and still going my friends think I'm crazy oh well
questions:
1. dollars... are the new ones worth saving... I know the older silver ones are good what about the newer ones?
2. quarters... other than the silver ones is there anything I should save because I'm getting ready to get rid of a ton and get some new ones?
3. dimes.
4. nickels and pennies
you get the point right
basically I'm asking should I save all my 1981 and earlier pennies because of their copper value?
should I save all my nickels because the price of nickel may go up?
are there any newer coins I should be looking for as well?
is there an easier way to find ww2 nickels without going through them all like there is dimes and quarters and halves?
and I've already tried 2 coinstars and nothing
my banker said to me... let me know if you find anything LOL
love this community really enjoying it thx in advance to any replys

Gratz dude. I don't have all that much luck with anything besides half dollars. I would hang onto all copper pennies, they are worth nearly x3 face atm. Nickels are worth 7 cents in metal value, and there is a possibility that may increase as well. I would hang onto em as well since they are only 5 cents each and it shouldn't impact your funds for other things.

WOW! You've asked abigger question than I think you realize. I guess my question back to you is...are looking to collect coins or hoard bullion? Your answer could save pages of text...

I dont save cooper or nickel, to me it just isn't worth it. I think your money and time is better invested in something else. Silver is totally worth it, (just hit $40) (YES!) you are having very good luck with dimes, or I'm having terrible luck-I just searched a box tonight and found nothing, except two golden toned dimes and a really nice '65. Found a '51 the other day though! Somedays you will search and search and search and search and search and search...well you get the point, but you won't find anything. Other days you will find amazing finds everywhere you look! Good luck!

Okay.. Welcome to the forums! :) First, I suggest picking up a Red Book.. They're pretty cheap.. $10 or less.. Copper pennies and Nickels are illegal to melt right now, but who knows in the future.. Here's what I would save: Pennies: 1. Anything pre-1982 2. Wide AM's from 1998, 1999, 2000 Nickels: 1. All of 'em, I guess ;) Dimes & Quarters 1. Pre-1965 Halves: 1. Pre-1971

Dollars: 1. Pre-1979
Also, watch out for Proof coins.. Most of these coins have "S" mintmarks..
We'll be glad to explain any of these terms to ya, also! :)

Those are fortuitous. In 70 rolls, not one silver.

wow 70 rolls no silver... I stick to dimes and quarters but quarters I havent had much luck so I guess I'm a dime guy for now mostly.
anyways question about rerolling... should I buy a machine... I sure as heck dont want to use coinstar ill lose in the long run that way... I heard some banks do it free? what about my local coin shop?
( this better not be a canadian dime I think to myself ) right before I pull the silver out of the roll hahhaha crazy world this is

Obviously any silver. I don't have the space or inclination to hoard copper. I take a little different approach on cents. I keep all au/bu pre 82s. Where I differ is I think the post 82 problem free Zincolns have the most growth potential.
Also, go check the varieties forum and see what is being looked for.

If you want to, you can get paper rolls cheaply, or at a bank, and reroll them yourself.. Then return them to a designated bank called a "dump bank".. This would save you the coinstar fees..

isn't there an easier way... can I walk into my coinshop and just buy silver dollars with bags of coins anyone heard of this before? coin shops taking coins as pay
and arent there coin rolling machines that do it for you that you can get for home use or something?

I suppose you could pay with bags of coins.. Money is money, right? ;) and they like coins anyway..lol..
I've never heard of a coin rolling machine.. Are there lots of banks in your area? Try to find one that let's account holders use a counting machine for free..
