There definitely is a "D" below the date...but this coin makes a GREAT filler for the hole in the Dansco.

Would be nice to have pics more in focus. Probably a 1922 Weak 'D'.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the 1922 Plain LWC is actually a result of the D wearing off the die over time that year. Philadelphia didn't mint Lincoln's in 1922.

Hard to see with the pics, but it might be a weak D... If so, I am with envy...

A little fuzzy, looks like a nice, smooth brown, VF-25.

I wouldn't even try to grade a 1922.
I guess you go by the obverse for the most part?

Yes and no...LOL. Once you understand the reverse die states you can actually pick up on the wear there too. One trick that helps is to look at the reverse motto by the rim. When I see the wheats have no definition I look at the rim and reverse motto. As the die gets worse, the motto merges more and more with the rim and becomes elongated to the point where's it actually comical.

I just love grading 22-D's. If you want to learn them, spend a few hours on ha.com looking at pics of slabbed examples. I'm positive I have over 40 hours there looking only at 22-D's....yea, I'm a sick puppy.

This is true. (That's how we know all the 1922 LWCs missing their D's are not Philadelphias!)
