I have a beautiful 1966 Irish farthing that I was documenting and noticed it had a mintage of only 96,000. But, I'm a little confused at the values.

I see UNC to near UNC coins selling for about $8-10. Just wondering why so low with such low mintage.

Anybody know this type than can shed any light as to why? Wouldn't that be considered a key to the series?

Price for most numismatic pieces is a function of rarity and demand (or desirability). Based on what you stated and quoted there must be low demand for this coin, or an error in its listing.

I have found this same phenomena with other countries as well. I asked once about this on a Mexican coin. I got a hold of the guy that krause uses for a lot of their Mexican values. I asked why this occurred. His first response was the same Danester. He then said this particular coin has been that way for as long as he could remember. 'it just is the way it is'. Weird. anyway, I just looked up on ebay and there is some guy selling these for $7.99 and he has 10 of them. so perhaps that 96,000 is very much in the hands of collectors. Who knows. it is a pretty coin anyway Scooby!
