Is this something that is common? I've never really looked at the eye so closely before. Thanks in advance:

It reminds me of the "broken nose" Mercury dime. I think that was due to excessive die polishing. I'm sure someone that knows more about it will tell you.

And I forgot to mention, that there might be some die chips in the eye too. Again, we'll see when someone with more knowledge tells more.
