Hey guys first post here. It is great to be a part of this community.
I have had this Texas half for over five years now. One of the few coins I bought raw.I am thinking about sending it to TPG company. I was wondering if some of the folks here would post their opinion on grade.
I am hoping for a MS66.

strange color, might get kicked back for questionable surfaces.

Thanks for your opinion guys. I think the surfaces are appearing weird because of sharpening in Photoshop. The surfaces are original with slight edge toning.

BiggFredd got it right, unless you really tweaked it with Photoshop...But my opinion says dipped and re-toned, and from what graded Texas Halves I have seen, the MS-66 graded ones are a bit stronger than this one... But the Texas Commems are an amazing design, and a nice coin... And of course to the forum...

Indeed ... to the forum. Pleased to have you on board.

Great coin! 1934 Texas mintage of 61,463 coins is by far the largest mintage for any single issue of the 13 coin Texas series (1934 through 1938) ... so you have a wonderful original year coin.

Only you can judge the surfaces of your coin in hand ... if you say original surfaces then I believe you ... your photos are deceiving us in terms of color.

The design high points subject to wear for this design are the eagle breast and the head and knee of Lady Victory ... this is where friction from wear will first show up.

I'm wondering if the bright spot on Ms. Liberty cheek is a rub ... if so this coin grades AU58. If not ... then this coin is indeed a candidate for a high MS grade.

For comparison ... here is my PCGS MS67 CAC approved 1935-S Texas. Mintage of this coin was 10,008 examples (including assay coins).

Thanks for sharing the photos and coin.

Maybe a more natural light photo to show the finish. Details not sharp enough for a MS66.

Also, to CCF!

Guys,I appreciate all the help.
@ David , that Texas MS67 CAC is awesome. Strike is one of the sharpest I have seen. I love the design of the Texas half and I am planning to complete a series of all of the in high grades one day.The bright spot on the cheek of liberty is not a rub as far as I can tell.
@ rjkingston, I should try shooting it in a more natural light. When I took this shot I had light it with what ever light I had available. I used a 6500 K white lamp from the left , 2700K warm lamp from right and a flash from the front bounced off the wall. Also I have observed compression of the photo while uploading to flickr is giving the coin's skin a wierd grainy look which is not the case.
Here are a couple of shots from that same shoot shot raw and converted to jpeg. The grainy look appears as soon as the pic is uploaded on flickr.

Much better pics(IMO), looks like original surfaces... The lighting was really tricky in the first pics... Beautiful...
