I am selling my small collection of ancient coins to Heritage Auctions for money to re-assemble my collection of 19th century U.S. type coins in lower grades (fine - very fine). The websites for Heritage and other big company seem to have only slabbed coins or very high grade type coins. Are there any reputable online dealers who have type coins in the lower grades for the collector on a budget? I don't want to buy coins on e-Bay. Thank you.

ebay will be your best price if you buy from an honest seller. Check the feedback, check the feedback, check the feedback, check the feedback if you are wary. And Know what you are buying.

Good luck.

Hi Bill

My first recommendation would go to our own forum Mom and Her ebay sales ,, If you keep an eye on Susans ebay auctions She has some very good type coins from time to time .

Second would be any other forum Member who has ebay sales.

Third would be the recommended sellers in the ebay discussions forum.

Rick
Rest in Peace

Hi Bill and welcome to the forum! You sound like my type of collector, one who knows what he wants. Lots of friendly folk here in the family and loaded with all sorts of information and, of course, advice.

You've already received two good pieces of advice. Don't discount ebay as a tremendous source of collectible coins, but as Errorcoins stated, be wary, be very wary. And read the feedback.

Those selling coins here in the forum are subject to very tight restrictions which are enforced, so you can shop here with confidence. If you can't find what you're looking for, you might try a Google search for a particular coin. While such a search usually hits on ebay auctions first, scroll down a bit and you should be able to find an online dealer who has what you're looking for. For example, I did a Google on "1852 3 cent coin", got about 10 ebay references and another half dozen coin history and forum (first above all else was a hit on CCF) above a dealer who seems to have a good selection of a lot of 19th century US coin series.

Ancient coins are actually much difficult to sell on Hertiage if I am not mistaken. The only exception I would give is only if your ancient coins are definately valuable. Didn't Hertiage gallery charge some 10% and some extra fees? I don't remember.

On the other hand, you may post on this forum under the apporiate forum section and ask for value advice. This way, you can have a rough idea what it can be worth.
