The coin it's all about:
Questions-About:-Isle-Of-Man-1-Crown-1988-

It is a part of the "Bicentenary of Australia" series. It was stuck (most probably) in the Pobjoy Mint.
There are at least two versions of this coin:
UNC Cu-Ni 38.5mm
Proof Au 1/2oz, 32mm

Now there is some info I look for, but it is either inaccessible or there are contradictory pieces of information around.
  • How many versions do exist in fact? Two, the ones mentioned above? Or is there a Proof Cu-Ni version too? Some sources mention the "Proof version" in addition to the gold one.
  • What were the mintages? For the gold version I've found both 7500 and 500. (I can hardly believe in the first...) For the mythical Proof Cu-Ni I've found 500 but that may as well apply to the gold version.
  • Who is the designer of the reverse?

I'd be grateful for any information. Taking into account that there is a lot of misleading information about this coin in the internet, I'd be also very thankful for mentioning what are the sources of data you provide.

As far as I know, there are four versions of the 1 Crown piece with that design - copper/nickel, silver, gold, palladium. But I don't have any info regarding the mintages, and what was issued in unc and what was proof ... Have you tried Numismaster? That database and website http://numismaster.com/ is based on the Krause (SCWC) catalog data.

Thanks for the info and the link. It helped a lot. Meanwhile - surprise, surprise! - I got an answer from The Pobjoy Mint. Combining them two together I got all the information I needed. It turned out that there are five versions of this coin: two Cu-Ni, and one Ag, Au and Pt.

Case closed then. :)
