I picked this up for melt at the show yesterday. It commemorates the centennial of Juho Paasikivi, the seventh president of independent Finland. I like the style of this coin--and the portrait has personality.

Great deal, I always liked the intricate design of the Finnish commemoratives.

Nice design, and a nice price, it seems. :) By the way, Paasikivi's successor Urho Kekkonen stayed in office even longer - from 1956 until 1981. The mint issued two coins honoring Kekkonen (both during his lifetime; he has been the only one to be honored this way). This first one commemorates his 75th birthday (1975), the second one is about his 25 years as a president. Images from the mint's site.

Yes, I like those too. (Despite the giant glasses he wears, hehe.) One reason is the fairly high relief; regular circulation coins hardly ever have that, but some collector coins - such as these ones - do. Another factor is that none of these three coins has a raised rim. And usually coins, even commemorative and collector coins, have such a rim while many (most?) medals don't ...

Thanks for posting those images I haven't seen the second one of Kekkonen.
The high relief is something I like about these commems too.

Excellent pictures. Thanks for sharing. The Finns do a nice job of their Commerative coins. The 2010 CC 2 euro is also most interesting.
