Poll Question
*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***I only collect LMC, but during my searches I have saved about 20 Indian Heads, and many, many LWC. They don't do a thing for me and they essentially collect dust. I am thinking about selling them on ebay and using the proceeds to add to my LMC collection. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on the deal though. There's a little voice in my head telling me it might be a bad move because Indian Heads and LWC are generally move collectible than LMC. I'm not trying to make a profit. I collect LMC because it makes me happy. Let me know what you think about my plan please.

If it were me, I'd keep the best one and sell the rest. You might want one for a type set or something else down the road. But ultimatly, its your hobby. Do what makes you happy!

I agree with Carl, collect what you like and forget the rest. I've sold off a ton of the "other" stuff to focus on Lincolns. I too love the LMC! They are actually one of the most difficult series to collect in high grade.

I say give us another option. go get some whitman folders and start a set. if you must sell, don't use ebay. sell them here.

Quote: They are actually one of the most difficult series to collect in high grade. And what is really odd about that is the vast amount of those that are minted. Yet at coin shows all the time I see many, many Lincoln Cents that look like they are worn, dirty, dented, scratched, etc. So many dealers have piles of them and very few in a really high grade. I once spent two years looking for a 1920D in an MS grade. And less and less of those all the time.

If they just collect dust I would move them along to someone who like you and your LMC will look at them all the time

Yet at coin shows all the time I see many, many Lincoln Cents that look like they are worn, dirty, dented, scratched, etc. Honestly, I'm surprize you see LMC's at shows at all. I've seen rolls but RARELY individual coins. Dealers don't like them and don't want to bother with them. I'll say it over and over on CC: There were BILLIONS of LMC's produced but 99+% of them are garbage. Billions have been lost to attrition. Serious collectors have ignored them pretty much since they were issued and of the rolls that have been saved....most have been improperly stored. Not to mention, you pop open an OBW roll and it's full of MS-63 and lower, spotted, MDS/LDS and coins. Then the bright idea.... Buy all PCGS/NCG slabbed MS-66 up coins. Well, too bad the grading standards on Memorials are so lax. They ignore die state, stains and spotting for the most part so the "high-grade" coins are crap too. If you factor all of this in, the popluation of truly high-quality Memorials is much lower than most believe.

Actually, I had to waffle back and forth on my answer to your poll. I went with "Keep them"......(although you certainly wouldn't be a fool for not doing so !) .. First of all, like you said, it isn't a monetary thing, so I figure, why "not" keep them ? I do not usually stay focused on one single denomination for all that long, I know you said your main love are LMC's, but this could change in the future for you too. Or you may have future kids, grand-kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, whatever...... who would LOVE TO HAVE YOUR STASH OF LWC's ! .... So, for me, I just "acquire" EVERYTHING that I can, even if I'm not all that passionate about it at the time. In general, I love ALL U.S. coinage. 20 years from now you might decide to start collecting Wheaties ! You don't want to "look back" with any regret over parting with them now...... And 20-30 years from now, finding Wheaties in the wild might not be so easy.....price of Copper......the Govt. may end production of the Cent altogether leaving only reserve piles that collectors would most certainly and frantically be snagging them all up.....or for whatever reason, them just disappearing from circulation.... which happens to everything eventually. If it's not "hurting" you to keep them.......I say do that.....and just put them away for a couple of decades, and just keep "adding to the pile".....
