I am thinking this Peace dollar is a MS-60, what do you think?

I would say an MS-61, with a really good possibility at higher. A lot of Peace dollars are plagued by weak strikes, however I'm not sure of the specific years that has a prevalence of weak strikes... This could go as high as MS-63... IMO of course, a beautiful coin nonetheless...

That's a nice one Wornslick! I'd rethink your MS60...I agree with fenton at MS63.

If there's no corrosion then MS63 sounds right. A couple spots look rough though.

I gave it a MS63 because of the rough spots, otherwise I would say MS64/65...glad you brought that up bh1964.

Thanks to all for the opinions. I am trying to learn how to grade the Peace dollars. I got the loupe out and took a good look at the spots on the reverse. I do not see any corrosion on the coin just dark areas, especially around the "I" in Pluribus and on the eagles breast, the pics show the areas better than you can see them in hand. The coin has great luster, and has a golden hue to it. Do you all think a dip in acetone would help the "spots"? Could it be tape residue?

I would recommend you keep this coin as is. The toning is natural and does not seriously detract. If you dip in EZest my fear is some dark spots will remain and you may also lose some of that nice mint frost. Dont think acetone would have any effect.

I'd be more concerned about the rust colored spot on the obverse around "Y" in LIBERTY. The smaller spots on the reverse are mostly carbon spots and will not come off. An acetone rinse never hurts to neutralize moisture. Keep her in an Air-Tite if you want but quite honestly this is a nice bullion coin.

That spot was on the coin when I bought it for $23.00 back in March 2010. I just thought it was natural toning.
