Yes, these monarchs remind me of dudes in the hair and spandex rock bands of the eighties.

1703 Charles XII of Sweden 2 Mark. A dealer told me that the greenish colored areas are likely due to PVC slime and that I should clean it off. As you can see I have not tried to clean it. What say ye?

I would try an acetone soak...nice coin! Compare the hair/face between the 05/03 Did they engrave each portrait on each die? Did you notice on the date of your 1705, there appears to be remnant of the 5/3. I see that Krause lists a 1705/03

I have several different years of Charles XII 2 mark pieces. Each portrait is a little different. I will wait for your 1702 before I post again.

Here's the 1707 coin I mentioned earlier... It's a Russian kopek, not unlike the one just recently posted in this thread. The date is written in Cyrillic numerals: 1000x1 700 7, or 1707. Now, moving the thread on... 1702 - Bavaria 3 groschen:
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

It's nice to see this thread in <backward> motion once again ! Here's another 1702.It's a silver 1/12 thaler, 25mm, but I'm uncertain of its detailed identity; appears German. I don't have a Krause catalog for the 18th. century.

Finally, I can post my coin from 1702--one of my all-time favorites! Another "big hair" coin like the Bayern 3 Gr. This is a Denmark 8 Skilling of Frederik IV. The mint mark dividing the date stands for Holstein-Glückstadt, an area ruled by Denmark at the time. Holstein became a member of the German Confederation in 1815 and fell to Prussia in the Prussian-Danish War of 1864.

Yay! Finally. :D While not as -clearly- dated as machine minted coins, this little half reale of Carlos II has enough of a date on it to qualify. It was minted at Potosi in Bolivia, in 1701 (the 01 being visible beneath the monarch's monogram). This is a posthumous issue, as Carlos II passed in 1700.

Not nearly as nice as the ones above but thought I would participate. A 1700 Church Token from St. Chapelle church in Paris.

Rolhalo, thanks...I haven't determined a value; it was a gift. Now we're zooming along again! I guess people should get a couple days to post coins from 1702-1699?
