Well, if you will accept my fathers coin, here it is. I will inherit it one day.... 8 skilling 1608 Denmark. 25 mms across. The portrait of Christian IV has seen better days.

Litotes, nice that your dad collects as well--it's a good memory together. I have no more coins bearing dates, so I'll just watch and enjoy.

Litotes, it looks like your father's skilling was defaced in purpose, poor Christian IV.

Amazing coins!
Litotes- that 1608 you posted at the top. Do you mind saying how much it cost and where you got it? That coin really looks nice. I love the wear and word font! Tells its own history.

My father bought this coin in a local coin club auction in 1988. The cost was NOK 110. I do not remember the exact exchange rate at the time, but it must have been something akin to $14-15.

Another 1606, France, 1/4 ecu; a rather crudely struck hammered silver coin, this one fairly high grade with just a hint of original lustre hiding in the crevasses. size = ~27 mm.

It was Samuel de Champlain, who was hired around 50 years after France decided to give up on the St-Laurence area, since there was no route to Asia and no valuable resources. When, the French and English started wars and competitive commerce around the fur basin (the Great Lakes), Europe forgot about Asia and wanted to colonize the ``New World``.
