For your info: a very big gold coin is to be released by the National Bank of Poland April 28th:

The parameters are:
Diameter: 50mm
Mass: 93.3g
Metal: Au 999
Mintage: 500
Face value: 1000zł (about 300$)
Obverse: Polish Eagle inside a rosette
Reverse: John Paul II the Pope

The price is not yet known.
AFAIK it's going to be the biggest Polish collectible coin.

That is a whopping 2.9999Oz Troy.
So it should have a good price tag to it.
Whith the gold running around $1486 right now, that is $4,456, then obviously add a margin to that.

Wow,
I recently saw a 1.5 ounce Columbus commemorative gold from Bahamas, it has 1.4 oz of gold in it....but that doesn't even compare to this coin!

This coin will be auctioned by NBP next week. The starting price is 14150zł=~$5200. Due to low*) mintage and high demand I expect the final price to be higher.

*) 500 may look a high mintage for a 3oz pure gold coin but Polish collectible coins have generally quite high mintages. For example mintages of "standard" Polish gold coins (8 or 16 grams) are about 8000, while for silver coins they vary from 40 to 100 thousand.

Yup a huge coin and a huge price.

The bank auction has ended. The price is 30.000zł - about $11.300 (over 2x higher than the starting price).

Sweet!
That is a lovely, well designed coin to commemorate the beatification of JPII.
Really enjoy the crown-sized coins, particularly when they are great examples of medallic art.
Thank you for sharing.
