New Addition To Judaean Coin Collection - Pontius Pilate!!!

Prethen Pillar of the Community United States 3234 Posts	Posted 10/14/2006 7:39 pm I just added a new coin to my Judaean collection, a coin issued under Pontius Pilate (Hendin 649). It's in my image gallery at http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...upby&uid=162 and shown below. For those who know a little about ancients and/or Judaean coins, give me your best guess as to what I paid. I'm curious as to how "smartly" I purchased this coin. I really like this piece because of the fact that it's well centered, has great detail and most of the legend, and nice "original" look to it. I'd say somewhere around $40 to $50? I haven't bought a Judaean coin in a while, so haven't really been paying attention; CV in the Sear Greek Imperial is £12 for "typical condition". For Pilate, I've only got one of the earlier (simpulum, year 16/~30 AD) types. I paid $110 (total) for it. This coin very often comes in much worse looking condition for not a lot less than this (maybe $70).
