I read something about a congressional committee haveing to present next year on the future state of currency? Who knows anything about this? Are they just presenting ideas? Or, are they going to make actual propositions about how to change currency? Who are involved in this committe? End of the penny? Change in nickel most likely? What about other denominations? Will plans for the bills be presented as well? Just curious, maybe some of the knowledgeable can shed some light.

They are just gonna decide to give us all a bunch of money, before the end of the world. They need to earn back some good points, for all the years they've taxed us. What else could it be?

Nothing has been announced or is official at this time. The truth is, nobody knows anything. Speculation and rumors abound though. We prefer to stick with facts. Rumor and speculation has it's own websites and forums. Without any concrete announcements or press statements, we can't offer any answers. We are aware that alternatives are being investigated for minting coinage, and that is all that is known.
Sorry I can't offer more information. But not much is known. We will have to wait and see how this plays out.

Quote: I read something about a congressional committee haveing to present next year on the future state of currency? Your kidding of course. Our government has committees on what committees are doing and then hire a group to make a committee on what those committees are doing and then they make a ........... And for some really strange reason nothing gets done so they make a new committee to ............... Your tax dollars at work.

The U.S. still has a triple 'A' credit rating.
That will remain IF the $14 trillion debt can be shown to shrink, even if it is only by a tiny amount, from the start of 2012 to the end of 2012.
The $14 trillion debt spread across the entire U.S. population works out to about $40,000 per head of population. Interest bill on that is about $2,000 per year, or little over $5,000 per household, that's about $100 per week.
The debt before the GFC was about $3 trillion. If the debt had continued at that level, the economy would have run out of credit, and a huge proportion of the population would have lost their jobs, and there would have been a second Great Depression.
At the height of the Great depression in 1932, 31% of the American workforce was out of work. At least we can thank the Government for avoiding that tragedy.
It's a worry though. The economy has to at least show some signs of at least a tiny reduction in the $14 trillion debt from the start of 2012 to the end of 2012. If that does not happen, the U.S. dollar will loose it's place as the World's reserve currency.
Some sort of World economic forum will have to invent a one world currency to solve the problem. I don't like the idea of a One World Government. The possibility of THAT ending in catastrophe is too much to contemplate.
To be honest, the U.S. has loaned huge amounts of money. What I can't understand is why cannot the countries of the World cross cancel their debts, to have a smaller amount of nett credit in some countries and a smaller amount of nett debt in others?

Both the Democratic and the Republican budget plans won't even eliminate the deficit in 10 years, let alone actually paying down the debt.

On December 22nd, the price of gold and silver will really sky rocket, or be worthless. All depends on if you're a survivor and what the Mayans meant by "End of Days" or "Re-balance of the Earth".

Either the world is going to end and it doesn't matter or one the sports leagues will discover a new steriod that can't be tested for and the government will get invovled with that instead of worrying about our debt, or another natural disaster will hit another country and we will worry about donating billions of dollars to them while we still sit and rack up more debt and most of the world will still hate the US. Either way none of them are good.

If the world ends tomorrow then perhaps I can get some great deals on some of the key dates. Anybody want to trade a me a 1909 VDB S for a worn 2000 Lincoln Penny ? As long as the world is ending, why not?
