I'm always reading about great proof finds from circulation on here and finally got mine. Found a 1974 S Jefferson nickel tonight. Not in the greatest of shape for a proof coin, but it's my first! I think this is deserving of my first dancing fruit......

My only proof found in the wild is a Connecticut clad proof quarter. Its somewhat scratched up (not terribly) but I still like it

Found mine beat up in a stash of coins. Took some time but finally determined it was a proof.

Cool!
I've found some proof Kennedy's searching through rolls, but I've never found anything in change.

My guess is that a collector dies, and his heirs don't know that the proofs are anything special, so, looking at the coins, and thinking they're just common change, spend them.

I've found two proofs now out of circulation, a dime, and a quarter. The dime might still pass as BU, the quarter, a solid AU.

The only one I've found was a very beat up bicentennial silver proof quarter. Used to get all kinds of interesting things working in the fast food restaurant.

Not to burst your bubble, but are you sure it's a proof? I do believe they made regular circulation strikes in 74 as waell at the San Francisco mint.

Congrats! Keep roll searching and they will come. I had my first cent proof last month. I've also had nickel and half dollar proofs.

i have a ton of proof dimes from roll searching
about 15 different dates and I have extras
I was thinking of buying the with proof Roosevelt dime dansco for that reason
I also have about 5 quarters
2 halves
2 pennies
and 2 nickels
I would never get rid of them even if some are worn
they will probably be the only proof coins I will own

The only proof I have from circulation is a 1999-S Clad Delaware Quarter. The find credit belongs to my wife.

Fiddler- According to my Dansco nickel album, the only years the SF mint produced business strike nickels was 68-70.

Correct. The San Francisco mint produced business strike Jefferson nickels from 1968 to 1970 and Lincoln Cents from 1968 to 1974.

I've found one proof: a 1972-S dime, in PRF-20 condition... I saved it when I was ten or so, only because it had an "s" instead of a "d" or "p" on it...

I didn't even know what a proof coin was! Lol
