I am beginning to think that all the coins that errors are just a figment of my imagination. That these coins are made by the few. After looking at thousands of coins, yes I said thousands, I have only found, die cracks, Cuds, and every time I think I have a double die, someone comes along and makes me feel stupid cause I can't tell the difference between a hub double and a machine double.... AAARGGGHHH? Maybe I will give this up!

Hi wrongalot
Hope you dont mind me chuckling a little ? But !!!! I search tens of thousands of cents a year,, I find hundreds of die cracks, machine doubled coins, damaged ,, and any variation of the above you can configure,,
but once in awhile I will find something worth the time Ive spent !!
But each coin is a study in itself, and time with them pays off in the long run,, the more coins you see and the more questions you ask, and the more responses you get the more confidence you will have ,,
dont give up and dont let anyone make you feel funny for learning !!

It will be a great find when you find a double die is not easy to find one if you do you can write an article about it, like the 1970 DDO one cents in one of the LINK site, especially to coins that they didnt find any DDO or DDR.

They should offer a short course in this at the community college, where we can actually see some of the real coins and learn how to tell the difference, and the best way to look at coins and take pictures etc etc. That would be great. Unfortunetly there is not a demand. At least not here in small town Oklahoma.

OH yeah, how does one find out about coin shows, I have watched my paper, and never see anything, could be here in Oklahoma there just isn't any, seems that I hear about alot in the east, but don't see myself traveling all the way to NY, or PA, for a coin show. Is there a website where coin shows are listed?

Wrongalot,
Your experiences are the precise reasons why I don't actively look for errors in moderns. They are relatively easy to spot on Classic coinage, so those are the errors I like.

Besides going to coin shows, I find that going to coin shops and learning from the dealers is great way to learn. With you being a young collector, you may build a pretty good rapport with some dealers, since many take an interest to teach a young, and eager collector. This I would certainly recommend.
