Hey all, I've recently caught the coin collecting bug thanks to this coin I came across at work. I work at a bingo hall and deal with 1000's of dollars in change a day. A lady came in the other day with a bunch of nickle dollars and was using them to buy cards, so I bought $20 worth off her and came across a 1974 Haweater Dollar from the Manitoulin Islands. I've came across a few ebay ads listing it at anywhere from $60 to $200! Just wondering if anyone can give me an educated estimate of it value. Thanks in advance!!

It's a Trade dollar so it's basically worth what someone will pay for it. While some people collect Trade dollars, it's a fairly narrow market. I'd judge the value by completed listing where they actually sold. It doesn't matter what the current ask price is from some people, it's what they actually sold for that counts. Someone here may have a catalogue that mentions it with some idea of a book value.

Haweaters have a very small but enthusiastic following. This one looks to be one of the rarer ones. I have to contact a collector to give you a better idea, but here is your on sale at ebay for $200.00. Here's a link to the auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/1974-Manitoulin...787219834001

Thanks again ugly! And thanks biggrassboy, I also found a few ebay ads listing it at a similar price however there was no bids on any of them. I visited my local coin shop today and the shopkeep looked in some book and said it was listed at $65. Pretty exciting considering I got it for a dollar!

I just responded to your other ad and then saw this one, I have been trying to get my hands on one of these to add to my own collection. Technically by book one of these could fetch up to $250 in mint condition. There was 10,000 of these minted in nickel silver. I have been trying to snag one of these off ebay and like you have spoke about there are listings for around $200, but it obviously it isn't selling for that, I have been bidding on others and those usually end around $60 to $75. I am super jealous you got this baby for a buck. You looking at selling it or keeping it? It is one year out of a 40 year series.

Hey Malise,
Im not particularily attatched to this coin. Like you said, it is one of many and I dont have any of the other ones. That being said, I'm open to making a little money to help fund my new found love of roll hunting! I'm not to sure how to go about this though, neither of us have enough posts to buy/sell through the site.

Just post on kijiji for your area... easy to find that way... use a key word like limecolouredtruck so it turns up on the search

Hmmm good idea. Thanks for the tip Ugly.
Malice, I'm going to go ahead and post it on kijiji. So if you happen to see this look for a Haweater Dollar in the Hamilton "Arts/Collectibles" section.
