the coin is probably a Morgan, but the pictures are so blurry, I can't make out the date or see a MM to tell if its a CC

I just get naturally suspicious when I see "SexyGryl86" who has sold two items; an old playstation 2 and an InsaneClownPosse music CD.... and now shes selling an AU 1889 CC Morgan dollar.......

"No returns" is another red flag.

I don't think the coin is real. Even if it was a real Morgan, it isn't an AU, more like a polished VF. It does look like an 1889 but the date doesn't look right. I can't see any trace of a CC mintmark. This thing just scream "RUN AWAY!" at so many levels.

I actually am pretty sure it is a real Morgan - just missing a couple important letters, as Conder mentions. There seems to be a nice empty field where CC should be. I cannot believe a seller w/ 20 sales can get bidding so high with such a blurry photo.

The odds are Slim and None, and Slim left town a long time ago.

I would rather spend equivalent money on lottery tickets then buy this coin, at least with them, there's a chance a could win.

I do not see any indication on the reverse that this is a CC Morgan.

but even if returns aren't allowed, doesn't ebay and paypal protect the buyer for misrepresentation of an auction? Mike

Even the enlarged pix doesn't have a CC that I can C, and I have a pretty sharp monitor.

Mike (mmerc) - Yes, the buyer should be protected - it's just an annoying hassle and will probably cost them return shipping. I assume if they are paying that much for the coin, they will realize the missing CC. However, that might be having a bit too much faith in them given that they were dumb enough to bid.

Quote:but even if returns aren't allowed, doesn't ebay and paypal protect the buyer for misrepresentation of an auction? Even if they do, how long are you willing to have $500-1000 or more tied up on a feral flying bird chase? More likely, you'll get an email: Dear sucker valued ebay customer, We have determined that you got ripped off by an ebay crook selling a fake coin. Under terms of the PayEnemy buyer protection program, your account has been refunded $3.12, which is all their account had left by the time we finally caught on. If they're ever stupid enough to put money in their account, we'll give it to you, up to the total they owe you.* *Unless they owe ebay fees, in which case you get in line.
