Thsi is a pre-£2.00 that was made 12mths before it went on General Circulation, I got it due to working in the coin operated industry.
Is it only worth its face value or a little moe?

Is the date 1997? It looks quite circulated and if it is 1997 then it is worth £2!

Sure looks like a 1997, both 1997 and 1998 dated coins were released into circulation in June 1998. According to the mint nearly 14 million of these 1997 £2 were made.
