I have a coin I found in my house and I can't seem to find it anywhere online. It's an 8 Reale spanish coin with the draped bust fernando vii figure on it. The front of the coin says "DEI GRATIA 1812 FERDIN VII". The back says "Hispan et ind Rex M(with a little circle over it---mexico mint mark) 8R HJ." Does anybody know the value of this coin? I don't know what the grade would be... the markings on it are really clear though. the edges aren't pristine.

Sorry if I sound really uneducated, I have no experience dealing with coins and hoped someone could be of help. Thanks.

Your coin is a portrait dollar minted in Mexico City when it was a colony of Spain. Whether or not it is real is another question altogether since the coin is often counterfeited. You will also need to check the edge design very carefully, there should be an overlap in the "circle/rectangle" pattern exactly 180 degrees from each other and the design should be clear and consistent. Your coin with the HJ assayer is slightly scarcer than the more common JJ variety. Value depends on condition, a G/VG example starts about $45 and they climb from there with condition.

hsham420 Welcome to the forum.

As noted above, a picture is worth thousands of words here.

We are waiting.
