Where Do I Get A $50 Bag Of Pennies

Ah okay. Just saw the red bag you were talking about that holds $50 dollars. I've honestly never seen one or heard of one till now when I googled it. Any particular reason you would want the bag over 2 boxes of pennies? I'm sure someone will chime in.

The mint stopped sending out cents in $50 bags years ago. They now send coins out in large bulk tubs and the company that receives them (Brinks, Dunbar, ect) rolls the coins and puts them in the boxes you get from the bank. That is why the banks have no idea what you are talking about. Older sealed and unsealed bags can be bought from dealers who will charge the price of 100 BU rolls for whichever date is in the bag plus a premium if the bag is sealed.

I get mine from the credit union counter..I have a standing order of 1 bag per week and they also call me when they have extra.

In the past I've found many banks have those in their vaults. They are there for coin shortage purposes and not for individual customers. This could well be why your told they don't have them. A few banks by me sell me those $50 bags but really don't like to and sometimes tell me I shouldn't ask for those again since they are for banking purposes only. Many banks that have coin counting machines dump coins from them into those heavy duty bags and put them into their vaults. If and when the quantity gets excessive, they just send to either the Federal Researve, Brinks, other such places. Some banks keep such bulk quantities for buisnesses that require coinage uaages. Such as Laundromats, arcades, etc. but you must have such buisness proof for those.
In some banks the tellers are told to say they don't have them since getting them would mean to stop their normal work, hold up line of customers, lock up their station, usually require a guard to help with the weight, go to a vault and open it for just that. Then take them back to their station, unlock everything and all for someone that just wants to look for coins they need for a collection. In the meantime there are a lot of really now irritated customers standing in line that just want to get in and out.
At one bank I go to frequently a teller that used to get me such bags and even rolls of halves told me since Bank of America bought them out, new rules apply to averyone, regardless of who they are. No stopping for someone that needs something from the vault unless they want to pay for that service.
Many banks now are well aware of all the coin searchers and just don't want the expense to help them. This is due to all the requests for bags of coins. boxes of coins, rolls of coins, etc. And also, the latest fad of returning short rolls to the banks.

Eric, I think what you want is a nice mix of coins to look through. Boxes will give you that...sometimes. Sometimes it's pure date. Right now around here I'm getting pure 2011D. But after while it will switch back over to mixed and by mix I mean, wheats, copper, Canadians and everything in between.

Try asking for customer wrapped. Harder to buy in bulk but $10-$20 is not that hard to find. They will be mixed.

Try getting away from metro areas. Find a bank where there's not a lot of commerce and maybe less flood of new pennies.

Brinks won't give you the time of day even if you offer to pay them.

Afraid that is not true...coin counting machines still bag em in $50 bags...I've gone through fiftty of them in the last 6 months
