hello. I have a 1865 Two Cent Piece and was wondering if it was an error. I will try to get a picture posted as soon as possible. the E and are in AMERICA are connected. the bottom of the E goes up to the top of the R. Has anyone else seen or heard of this error?

We'll need pictures be be sure of what you have but it sounds like probably either a die crack (no premium), a die gouge (probably no premium), or post mint damage (a negative premium).

OK, you have a die crack that runs from the rim to the center of the A through the M the bottom of ME, up through the serif of the E to the top of the are and back to the rim. The crack branched as it went through the E and came back together in the R. A piece of the die between the cracks has fallen out of the die resulting in the raised lump from the E to the R. It also looks like there has been some die chipping inside the M as well. Since the crack runs from rim to rim if the die remained in use there is a chance it may have eventually broken away completely and formed either a Retained Cud or even a full Cud. It also looks like there may a crack through the bottoms of ATES to the top of the O

I don't know if it's an error or not but it is neat and I think there are some people that would pay a premium price for it. Especially if there is a Cud that resulted from that die crack.

I wouldn't call it an error, just a late die state. I wouldn't expect it to attract much if any premium.
