I went to my coin shop the other day to buy some ASE's. They had maybe 30 uncirculated and twenty or so in proof. I was only able to find one uncirculated ASE that I wanted to put in my collection. There were just digs and scratches on every one. I was able to find an '88 in really nice condition, so I took that one home. The proofs at my shop are pushing $100 now, so I'm not going to go that route. In short, I think the supply is dwindling down now. Selection is pretty well picked over. Two weeks ago I could walk in blindfolded and take home five really nice coins. I may have to go with all gold purchases at this point. The good thing is that I learned about that great shiny finish on the older ASE's. Time to buy some graded 80's coins on ebay I guess.

Some of these shops could be selling to APMEX, esp if they sell them just a smidge over spot. Why not take the 3 over, you think they would do that for a guaranteed sell, esp if they sell from shop at 1 or 2 bucks over?

I think silver will keep going up, due to the ever falling dollar, plus smarter silver holders holding on to it knowing the powers to be want to shake it loose and that it is in high demand, and looking at a dip as a chance to buy, NOT PANIC and get out, combined with a silver shortage, means silver is gonna hit 100 by years end I think now...

You know, I prefer the newer finish on ASEs. They just seem more 'sharp' to me.

I notice a big difference in the finish of the 2010 and 2011 eagles. My 2010 have a more satin look. My 2011 have more shine.

Were those 2010s like that when you got them or could this be an aging thing? I have a few 2011 ASEs and they are in BU condition. Haven't seen a 2010 or earlier ASE close up, though.
