I made fun of my father for buying some of these then got to thinking a little more about it. Basically, when you buy them for a buck or so, you are only really paying for the manufacturing cost. There will always be a premium above spot for the cost of refining and minting them. Same with the silver eagles direct from the mint. They charge $2, I believe, over spot, for them in bulk. So that said, this means that this price is the cheapest you will ever be able to buy these 'coins' for. I wouldn't buy them buy the truckload, but if I could get 100 for $117 (what a lot sold for on
ebay a few days ago) I think it might be a good idea.
