I've never let the fact that the word doesn't exist inhibit my use of it before.

I think BF patented that train of thought.

Very strange, the whole egg-laying-mammal thing. If I could lay an egg I bet someone would put me on a platinum coin.

Your joke just laid an egg.

Hey, where's Perry?

If you get it, great. If not, your loss.

I'm just impressed they were able to round up 10 of the little fellas to fill out their stupid survey! The fact that 1 out of the 10 didn't go for it, that's just the icing on the cake. ;)

platypuses or platypi are both correct.

Plural of "a platypus" is "platypuses" or... "platypus". This second form is promoted by The Australian Platypus Conservancy. "Platypi" is an error, because the change "us -> i" should be applied only to words of Latin origin while "platypus" is of Greek origin.

Quote:
A group of platypus is a platyplot.

A good one!

Quote:
A baby platypus is a puggle.

Not exactly. "A puggle" is a baby echidna. There is no common term for a baby platypus, yet "a platypup" is suggested.

For the language nuances look here: http://platypus.asn.au/historical_background.html

Now about that mysterious tenth platypus from the first post. I guess that the tenth platypus knows you have no money for an ounce of platinum.
