Hi,
I own an 8 Reales coin from the time of Carlos III (1759-1788) it was minted 1782 in the Spanish colonies, Bolivia. The coin has the following mint mark.18th-Century-8-Reales-Variant-Worth-What? Potosi Bolivia
However, I could not find a match that looks like my particular coin, most notable is the distance between 8-R in comparison to other 8 Reales 1782 coins from Potosi,Bolivia. Actually all the 8 Reales coins from 1782, Potosi,Bolivia I have seen on the web don't have a space between 8-R on the Reverse side. Which naturally made me a bit curious on the frequency of this kind of variant and of course it's worth.

Thanks you in advance.

The date and some letters are extremely thin on this coin, in fact too thin to be acceptable as a genuine coin. Genuine 8 reales do have some die varieties, such as differences in spaces between letters, but this does not appear to be the case here. Seems like this one was made by a counterfeiter who was not particularly knowledgeable and put the "R" with the P.R. instead of with the 8.
This is not an issue with spacing, it's an issue of attribution as to which part of the legends that "R" belongs with.

Hi,
I had the same thought, but on the other hand this coin was in the collection of my Grandfather for decades. "Sadly I didn't ask him in his lifetime. "
What's also notable is that some coins under Carlos III and Carlos IIII have the same space between "Number"--R.
It's like they used a reserve die or something, all coins were handmade anyway.
But I still suspect this is some kind of later marked coin for the use as a silver world trade coin, similar to the Maria Theresa thaler with its hundreds of variants. But nevertheless I also do not think this coin was struck in the lifetime of Carlos III.

Ps. My coin.
Diameter - about 40mm
Weight - about 27gr

Random example of a coin under Carlos III with the space.

The other coins do not really have an extra space between 8 and "R". On these coins the spaces between the 8, "R" and assayer initials are even, but on the first coin you posted there is a much wider space between 8 and "R".
It may be contemporary, and probably has some collectible value if it is. Swamperbob is really the most qualified to make that assessment.

"Just for the fun of it, some gap coins from Potosí under Carlos III."
