Very cool medals by Medallic Art Company. They made them right about the time Alaska & Hawaii were admitted as states. They were issued in bronze, silver and in gold!! Here's one of the gold Hawaii examples on Heritage... http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...0&Lot_No=756 I also saw one of the gold ones at a Goldberg auction a couple of years ago. Very neat!! Also, the Hawaii medal was initially issued with an error spelling the westernmost island "NII HAU." It appears you have the corrected version spelling it "NIIHAU." The Hawaii medal error is the "NII HAU" error (added space is the error in spelling". Complete listing and identification is available at: https://coins.www.collectors-societ....aspx?s=8012 Estimated (Hawaiian Money 2nd Edition by Medcalf and Russell) indicates approximately 30 bronze progression sets are known to exist and are highly prized. The progression set starts with a blank planchet, 1st strike, 2nd strike, 3rd strike, and trimmed medal (removes flange (aka extra metal) from edge from the multiple strikings). The trimmed medal also does not have the oxidized antique finish. Report this Post to the Staff
