The best way is definitely by weight. The Silver clad coins weigh substantially more than the copper/nickel clad. 24.59 Grams versus 22.67 grams etc.
*Also, look real close at any 1974D and 1977D Ikes- the U.S mint made a few in Silver Clad by mistake and these are worth thousands of dollars!*
All 1971 & 1972 S Ike's are Silver Clad.
Any Ike's you have that have an S on them after 1972, weigh them if you are not sure if they are Silver Clad or Copper Clad.
With the exception of the rare 1977D error, as mentioned above, all 1977 and 1978 are non-silver.
