@JackB: I do purchase world coin lots every now and then and sometimes I find some nice US coins in them, but mainly I get my coins through trading.
Most of my coin collecting friends mainly from USA and Australia help me with my want list every now and then..

@phankins11: Glad that I could help.

Regarding how I got interested in US coins, I think I can say I owe it to coin community members

It all started in 2007 when I was searching the internet for a coin collecting resource and I found CC forums..... I didnt knew then that there is a place where you can chat about coins ..... all what I dreamed of is to find some info about my coins. I registered my name and starting lurking around, I was very happy to find all these info about coins but there was a little info about Egyptian coins.
As most of the members are Americans and most of the members are collecting US coins, you will find that 80% or even more of the threads and posts are about US coins I learned a lot and started trading Egyptian coins for US coins.

Starting making friends from around the world and after 4 years I now have US coins more than Egyptian coins in my collection.

Well, as they say, if you cant beat them ... join them

You may be surprised to know that lately I have been interested in collecting First day covers and I dont have a single one from any country even Egypt but I have 600 FDC's from USA ..... thanks to my American friends

Regarding what I have achieved in my US collection, well this will be another story to tell

EgCollector - certainly interesting, and thanks for sharing. Funny thing is my collection started with a little hoard of coins I brought back from Europe my senior year of high school. 8 years later, my wife and I were adopting our daughter from Kazakhstan, which allowed me to bring back Kazakh and Russian coinage. This year I got them all out, put them in 2x2s and enjoyed the looks of'em there in my album. I then found the start of my State Quarter collection from about 5 or 6 yeas ago and now I'm full force on US quarters (and others).

It must be the idea of how different other country's money looks compared to the every day coins we use, but I do love the looks of other country's coins. I'm really enjoying US coinage right now, as it's aiding in my attempts at re-learning US history, which I love, but I'm sure at some point I'll be getting the itch To get a little deeper into foreign coinage (of course I use the word foreign from my perspective )

I do have to agree with you too on the forum here. A lot of information and everyone here has been way helpful! Its a great community of folks. And I too love having friends around the world.

@phankins11: It always starts with a small number of coins that you have either from your childhood, brought to you/or by you from travelling or being inherited from a relative........ if you got hooked then prepare yourself because in a year from now you will find yourself collecting from different countries and different sets that you didnt imagine or even know about.

Regarding CC forum ..... I think that I dont need to say anything about, just read the topics and you will find very helpful and knowledgeable members whom are ready to help at any time.

BTW, when you decide to expand your collection to include world coins, i'll be happy to help with your Egyptian collection

I use Dansco for modern cent/nickle/dime/quarter and 2x2 to keep the interesting stuff I find while roll searching that don't belong in them.

I keep all my coins in 2x2 cardboard Flips, I use return address labels to stick on them. its nice and neat. Also I can differentiate the different types and varieties. Then I keep these in coin storage boxes. I must be nuts cause I spend twice as much time organizing and displaying my collection than I do aquiring new coins. The thing I like most is that I don't have to mess with taking them in and out of an album. I like holding them in my hand under a light and studying them.
