So as I'm typing this, Silver is at $35. When you look at the auctions of ASE's on ebay, they are still selling for around $50. My question for the long time collectors/investors is this: Even with Silver's recent free fall, are ASE's that popular that they command $15 over spot? Or is it just that some of the bidders on ebay aren't paying close attention to the market? I like ASE's (like most, I suppose ), but $15 over spot seems to be a bit steep.

No.
But you have to remember that these are bids over time. The auction may be a 9 day auction. And if you look at silver 9 days ago it would be closer

I considered this, however it many of the auctions were quite shorter and the other thing I noticed was that bids were still coming in during the final minutes of these auctions. I guess I'm just a little surprised that ASE's still command such a high price.

The closest coin dealer to me was selling ASE at spot plus $2.25 which I thought was decent. He didn't have too many in stock though. I would guess alot of the ebay people aren't paying too close of attention to spot price or maybe they just don't care. Right now as of today, I don't see any reason to pay more than $39 for a regular ASE.

My local dealer is charging $5 over spot for ASEs and is selling all he can get almost as soon as they come in. Last time I was in, he only had a couple left out of a 100 coin order that came in 2 days before I did.

My dealer charges three over spot plus tax, killin me.... I to Geardaddy have been tracking ebay very close this week and noticed the same high spending trends, late bids etc. Try and find a nice Britannia short of 50 bucks.... Remember Eagles are perceived to be becoming more and more rare, as they are being absorbed into silver hoarder's such as myself collection.... And most buyers know what they are doing, as most ebay auctions tend to end 8 bucks over current spot for generic silver bars an rounds, so don't think most buyers does not track the figures just as close as you and I. Like Spaceace pointed out, they just don't care. Not everyone is as frugal with spending as coin collectors/bullion investors, attempting to minimize spending and maximize profits. Some just are hoarding for the future and figure that extra fifteen bucks would just we waisted on some lottery tickets or Mickey D's, if not on that nice ASE....

I know I can't believe it either. I have a guy wanting to sell a ton of silver coin for well below spot, to raise capital so I listed these. I just checked today I have a high bid of $2,125 on 40 ASE and 5 Maple Leafs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...RK:MESELX:IT

Look what some of the primo silver houses are STILL selling them for. $50 is not out of the realm of affordability.

I wonder how many will walk way / not pay / return the ebay items etc once they realize the premiums they are paying. Granted there are some stale bids.

Yeah, I don't know if they will pay but the bid was placed yesterday when silver was $34 something an ounce. If they don't pay i'll keep them, and file a NPB form with ebay. Just picked up 40 rolls of Washington's for $200 a roll I will not complain if I am forced to hold these for a while.

I had some guys try to not pay me for some silver that they won online from me at the height of the silver price. I guess they took their time paying and then saw how much the price had fallen.

I had the same thing happen to me (except I was selling a 1/10 oz. Gold Eagle). But the guy kept pushing off payment, gold started downward and he refused to pay. The crapper of it was that he never emailed me back when I was inquiring about payment, and THEN HE DINGED ME on my feeback stating that I was being unprofessional! I wasn't even being all that firm, I was just trying to get a plan together as to when I could get down and mail out the coin once payment was received. It was the first and only time I have had someone on ebay give me a negative and I'm contesting it with ebay to get it removed.

I just paid $50 each for two ASEs last Monday at my shop's bid board. Of course, they just happened to be 2006W and 2007W proofs so I didn't do too bad

I guess I "fell for it". Last night I paid $49.50 for a 1986 ASE. That includes $3.50 for S&H. Provident Metals had them listed for $42-$44 but they were out of stock. I figured the premium went to getting something that they didn't have and it has some numismatic value to me beyond just being silver. Oh well... 1987 is next on my wish list. -- Boris

$3.50-4.50 is typical except for shows where you can find them for $3.00 over
