My research has not uncovered the existence of a 1983 D Brass LMC. Has anyone heard of, or found, a 1983 D Brass? Is there any way to make the determination? Weight? Specific gravity? Taste?

Here are my pics. I know that one is a 1983 P and the other is a 1983 D, but I didn't have another 1983 D to compare it too.

What are your thoughts?

Is he talking about brass 1983 cents, or brass plated 1983 cents? There is a big difference. If he is talking about a brass cent then weight will tell the difference A brass one will weigh 3.1 grams +/- .1 grams.

Yes I did. There is no mention of a 1983D, just 1983P.

1982 was the switch from copper alloy to copper plated zinc. If your 83D weighs 2.5g, it is copper plated zinc. If it weighs 3.11g, it is copper alloy, and should be sent out for authentication and grading.

I should have said brass plated. Its clearly not a "solid" brass cent based on the feel method.

I've found 84-D's and saw no mention of them either...but I think enough brass plated cents have shown up that there is not much if any premium for them...maybe uncirculted ones will get you a couple of bucks.
