Are All Grading Companies The Same.

Alexzwarenstein Valued Member United States 59 Posts	Posted 05/07/2011 7:13 pm I guess the question is in the title. I want to send some potentially valuable coins for grading. Can it be said that one company is better than another? I contacted NGC only. If I understood correctly,they appear to base their charges on what the insurance value is on the coin. I don't understand that..what happens if I insured for 10 cents on a $200.00 coin? The only tier reference I see that fits is 'all US coins valued at $300.00 or less.' Okay, I'm thick...could anyone respond what these theoretical coins would cost to grade,(ballpark only):- 1) a Morgan dollar worth $175.00 2) a Morgan dollar worth $300.00 3) a Morgan dollar worth $5000.00 4) a Morgan dollar worth $50,000.00 I know, I know... only theoretical.. but I do have a few very nice looking bad boys. One in particular looks amazing, and is designated as rare. I will show when I have photographed it. Report this Post to the Staff

mshev Valued Member United States 312 Posts	Posted 05/07/2011 10:50 pm Alex - It's generally felt that PCGS and NGC are the two best grading services, which PCGS sometimes being slightly more conservative. Next up would be ANACS. I've never sent in a coin to NGC, but this is how PCGS prices their grading: http://www.pcgs.com/grading_list.chtml . If you underestimate the value of the coin significantly, they'll bump you up into the appropriate pricing. Report this Post to the Staff
