That is a beautiful coin. Very nice acquisition. Well done!

It may be high relative to those worthless pieces of paper in your wallet...

You are so right, Mitch. You can clean out your wallet by sending me ALL of those worthless scraps of paper in there. Glad to help out a fellow collector!

Boris, the thing is with fractional gold, you pay a premium to get it but you can also sell it at a premium! The reason I do not like large items such as 100 oz bars or even 1 oz gold bars is that fact that you have so much money tied up in 1 item! I would rather have 3600 dollars mixed up in small items like silver coins, small gold, etc because if I only need a few hundred dollars, I don't have to sell an entire 100 oz silver bar to get that money or a 1 oz gold coin. I can sell some smaller items and still have a stash.

Kramer on Mad Money made an interesting statement the other night. He said that Gold is trading parallel to the dollar's movement, thus, Gold is money. Silver is trading more as a commodity. So, in his opinion, if you are playing the fall of the dollar, stick with gold. If you want to play the apparent shortage of silver for commodity uses, then make your play with silver. I am playing both sides but I hold about 75% of my PM invested money in gold. I have a mix of bullion gold coins and Classic US gold coins so that if needed I could sell a half or quarter eagle to pick up some quick cash without making a big move in my gold holdings.

I am still actively collecting classic gold as a part numismatic/pm hedge. I think that silver has a lot more potential for making astronomical profits, and also debilitating losses. Gold is more stable. Gold = "Slow and steady Freddy" and silver = "Drama Queen".

Currently working on a roll of "junk" half eagles, and I have got 16 so far. There is something about gold, feeling the weight in your hand and admiring it. Lotsa trips to the safety deposit box. Though I have silver too, I have noticed that I only like it when collecting in sets. I have no rolls of 90% or generic bullion, and everytime I do get them, I end up selling it.

I like them because they fit into the nickel rolls. However, they are significantly thinner than nickels(especially the $5 indians), so I'm not sure whether to go 40 or 50 coins. Either way, I'll be broke by the time I'm done..lol.

I had someone call the other day with 50 buffalos to sell.

Not interested. Anyone with that much gold has either stolen it, or is looking for top dollar, which he can find as easily as I can. I have better things to do than risk $85,000 to make a potential $1,000. Even a realtor makes $5100 on such a deal, with no risk.

First thing that runs through my mind on such deals: aren't you selling them back to the person you bought them from?

Hey Johnny, you just made me want to pick up nickel roll hunting again. LOL what a find that would be!

The thing with fractionals, though, is that you pay extra for them. To break even you have to wait for at least a $100 move upwards. If I were investing in gold, I would put at least some of my holdings in numismatic gold because of this melting frenzy we've been seeing over the last 2 years or so. In fact, if you're really serious you could go to one of these gold buyers and offer to buy their MS coins.

I think I will stay on the sidelines with what I have. When things calm back down and gold is back under $1000 and silver under $20, then I will think about getting some more
