I have not been able to find the answer on my own so I turn to you fine people.
I have an 1884-P Morgan that appears to have an error on the reverse. Their seems to be a "tear" in the metal across the breast of the eagle. It doesn't seem to have been made post minting because the coloring is the same. That is to say it does not look like a scratch to me.
I am including pictures (scans) of the coin in question.
Note there is some discoloration around the area in question but it is not as visable with the eye as it is in the picture.
Would love any help! Thanks in advance.

Possible lamination. Does it look like a flake of the silver has come off of the coin?

Yes. I would say it looks like it was pushed to the side and then stamped.
Possibly a defective blank?
Any other thoughts or comments are very welcome.

Thanks

That's what a lamination is, a defect in the planchet. The possibility remains that your coin is the result of a post-mint hit by something - it's tough to tell in this image.
