A couple days ago I started new thread asking if anyone knew of a web site that cataloged 19th century Philippine coin die varieties - doubled dies, RPM's etc. I had done some searches, but didn't find what I needed.

No one answered me, so I guess there isn't any such web site, or maybe my question wasn't interesting enough.

So, check-out this 1868 Philippines Spanish Colony 20-Centimos with a radical repunched Date. Looks like the first "8" has been repunched with an up-side down "3", and the "6" seems to also have been repunched. As Spicoli (Sean Penn) from "Fast Times at "Ridgemont High" would say.. "ahhgghhh gnarly!"

I found this one in a bag of foreign coins in the early 1990's that Foothill Coins would sell by the pound.

The curved loop on the 8 is interesting! I would probably try to find an 1863 coin, to see if this matches a 3 on both ends. Another possibility might be a filled die, or the 8 punch was broken, and it was repunched. On that digit, I see evidence of repunching both east and south (with that "horn" on the lower right). The 6/6 north is pretty obvious, and there might be repunching on the last 8 as well.

I'm not sure about scarcity myself; I was hoping the Philippine collectors would chime in on that.
If it's at all like S.American/Spanish colonial coins, most repunched dates aren't listed, but major overdates are.
