What is the deal with these? They don't look to be US Mint issued (They say USA rather than United States of America and I could not see a date on them and no monetary value).

They look cool but is there a point or what is the deal with these things.

Not a US Mint product, just privately produced copper bullion.

I saw a bunch on ebay and thought it was a way to capitalize on the silver eagle popularity. People might try to hop on the next best thing and get a copper eagle before they become popular, not realizing that they are not a US mint coin. :)

I bought 5 of them cause they were cool. it was like $5 or so. they are for my son who is getting into collecting and I have 5 different designs.... dont think they are worth anything more than the copper which is way less than $5 worth.

Thats what I was kinda interested in, the novelty of it. It might even be kind cool if the Mint actually produced a large sized coin or something in pure copper. But I'm kinda with you dwhess504, their kinda cool and perhaps a neat conversation piece. Not sure I will get one yet, but I may just for the fun of it.

I almost bought 100 of these from rare-coin to resell on the bay. I couldn't get over what I saw people paying for these, and I wanted in on this action too. Glad I didn't do it. Most on the bay are going unsold now for .99 cents. I think I'll buy a few as gifts for some of my younger family members that I've encouraged to start collecting wheat cents and odd coins. The impact the coins could have on them may actually be worth the cost over spot these things will cost me.

I think it will take a while for the cost of copper per ounce to even catch up with what people pay for these things, assuming that we stay in a constant inflationary environment. There are much better ways to invest your money, IMO. They might look neat, but there are a lot of coins that look neat and have better value. I'd rather pay a $3 premium on a silver coin that is worth $35+ than a $4.50 premium on a coin that has $0.35 of copper in it. Hell, you are better off collecting copper pennies!

I bought one about a month ago for $1.98. For awhile last month they were selling for $6 or $7 a pop. I mainly wanted to see the quality of the die cut. Not too bad but not very deep.

IMHO, those are collectables, nothing more. The fact that they're made of copper is moot.

Dare I say they are almost, if not, in the same league as beanie babies, collector plates, and those plated "certified authentic" Liberian collector coins you see on late night TV commercials...

I did however buy a 1 Oz. bar a couple of years ago because I did like the way it looked. I paid $4.95 for 13¢ worth of copper. It was not bought as an investment. Just a cool looking piece of art.
