Hello

I was wondering if you think this coin
would make VF-20 ?
Images are scans so not so great. Should give the general idea
anyway. Just wanted a few opinions before I put it up here on the auction forum.
Also, I am assuming this is the more common large motto ?
I cannot tell the diff. between the two. (Sm/Lge.)
Thanks.

Indian that is a beautiful coin, and it has a strong WE. I would grade it XF. The coin is a large motto.

From CCF US Coin Facts (link on the left US Coins & Currency to the top left of every page on the Coin Forum):

Two Cent Piece General Grading Standards

G4 Good- At least IN GOD visible.

VG8 Very Good- WE weakly visible.

F12 Fine- Complete motto visible. WE weak.

EF40 Extremely Fine- WE is bold.

AU50 About Uncirculated- Leaf tips, arrow points, and the word WE show trace of wear.

MS60 Uncirculated- No trace of wear. Light blemishes.

MS63 Select Uncirculated- Some distracting contact marks or blemishes in prime focal areas. Luster may be impaired.

I would grade your '64 2 Cent at least a VF-35.

Very nice "wood grain" on both sides too!)

and it is a Large Motto.

Here's a small motto (not mine. I wish!) Note the D in GOD is virtually upright versus the large motto one which is leaning to the right in line with the ribbon, the T is TRUST is right up against the ribbon fold instead of farther away in the large and the leafs under the left ribbon are three large (almost equal size) leafs versus the large motto, two large and one small on top of them.)

Thanks all for the help. Learned a lot with your comments.I see the WE is very important here. Having the coin in hand
i would have to say the WE is just a tad under EF40 so VF30
should work on the conservative side. Not much diff. in value
either up one or down one grade so now I have a good ballpark.
This is just the beginning on the sale of my recently departed
step dads collection. There is going to be an interesting mix of coins. morgan, trade and Peace dollars, seated liberty halfs and dollars, silver, etc. I just found another right now
in the box (1864) that makes this one look like G-4
Looks to be a higher AU. Will get that one up soon.
There are a lot of coins to do and I have not even looked at
many yet. So far, 1874-CC half variety 5 arrows/motto may make VG-8 only though max. 1869 5 cent, 1893 columbian expo,
1925 patriot half, 1920 pilgrim half Unc., 1855 half, 1859-O half, 1866 half 58/unc.,1872 one dollar, 1876 half,
1878-CC morgan vam-9, 1877-S au Trade dollar, 1847 dollar
anacs AU50 - Way off on that one :) easy 55. Need to think that one over. a start anyway. gonna be busy for a few months I think.

I'm sorry your Step-father recently passed. That's very tough to take.

I am glad his collection has fallen into good hands, however. I'm sure he's happy about that. It looks like a nice one!

LOL :)

I was just replying to another post I had put up
regarding the 74-CC half. Pics. will be on the way
over the next weeks/months as there are a lot more coins to come. Sold some today already. Check out the other post in the classic error/var. forum. I think that is where I put it.
