Hi folks

I'm tryin to sell a 1691 limerick gunmoney coin

my problem is I'm not sure what it is. I've found it described as a farthing and as a half penny

this ould be the same thing for I know. I think Sap identified it for me before but I can find the thread.

anyway can anyone help?

Looking for this thread? It had been archived, which is probably why you couldn't find it.

A farthing is a quarter of a penny (word derived from "fourthling"), or half a halfpenny.

Calling it "gunmoney" isn't entirely accurate, either. Gun money derives from the same period in time (James II attempted revolt in Ireland) but the term is more commonly used for the brass shillings, halfcrowns and crowns issued as 'tokens' to be redeemed for real silver coins once James had won.

looks like I'm off the mark with valuation also...hehe I found another guy that sold one for 350dollars. It was in a bit better nick so I said i'd give it a go.

sold that coin for 76euros . I reckon it was a good deal for the guy who bought it. He was a Limerick man though so I'm glad of that much.
