I acquired this from a flea market some years ago as a novelty and it got shoved into a box of odds and ends in a cupboard and forgotten about. As we were having a bit of a spring clean recently the box came to light with this in it and I don't really have any info about it at all so was wondering whether anyone here might have a clue?

I believe it is silver and the portrait of QEII appears gold-plated which sadly doesn't show in the pics because for now I've only a cheap digital microscope that doesn't really do colour so apologies for that. It does however manage to capture what I think must have been a stray fibre on the outside of the capsule (certainly isn't a scratch or defect on the coin) in the reverse image though lol.

Have had a search on the internet but having only the fact it is a medallion to commemorate the silver jubilee to go on without even knowing which country minted it (or whether in fact it is a private minting) I've not yet been able to find any information on it.

Thanks in advance if anyone can shed any light,
Norm

there were quite a few souvenirs, momentoes, etc put out in 1977.
I think this is one of the better-made of them, but I can't see anything on it that links to any particular part of the Commonwealth.
I think, unless someone recognizes it, you'll be best to google "silver jubilee 1977", and wade through the hits until you find something ...

As we've recently seen with the Royal wedding, any notable State or public occasion throws up rakes of memorabilia; some of it even authorised.
For the Queen's Jubilee a whole slew of unofficial crown size medallions appeared, the greater proportion in base metal, many of which used this portrait or one strikingly similar. What most of them have in common is their anonymity. They've appeared sporadically on CCF forums but their origin, in the most part is shrouded in mystery/indifference.
And yes, like many others here, I've got one. Not like yours however. Gold plating does raise the bar slightly, and I'd really love to see this topic go the distance this time.

Thanks Bob & Peter,

looks like I might just have to keep trawling through and hope I luck in on something although I'm guessing the chances are pretty slim

It is certainly a better looking QEII Silver Jubilee commemorative than many I've come across whilst trying to research it - had hoped the unusual use of "Her most excellent Majesty" might help key into it but sadly nothing so far.

Oh well, can't complain I've nothing to do lol.

Thanks again,
Norm
