My first 1/10 ounce AGE arrived today from Provident Metals. The transaction was smooth and delivery was quick. I paid with a CC because I didn't want to risk my check not arriving in 5 days through 1st Class Mail. Using Priority Mail would cost ~$5 and that quickly ate into the difference between cash and credit prices. S&H was $8.95 which seems excessive. The coin was shipped US First Class Mail with Delivery Confirmation. I would guess the shipping was only $2-$3. Did the handling really cost $7-$9? I don't know. Maybe you have to pay the handlers well enough so they don't pocket the coin for themselves? I went "cheap" and got the Random Year selection. Mine turned out to be a 2010. The coin is in very uncirculated condition. There's nary a scratch on it! This is my 1st 1/10 ounce coin so the experience of ownership is new to me. The coin is very small - smaller than a dime it feels. However, the detail on it is absolutely beautiful! I wish all US coins looked this good. I held it in my gloved hand and I let it ring on my table. The sound is distinct and is pleasing. As a bullion investment, I really don't care about the year. Going random saved me some bucks. If I choose to get another then I will definitely go for the random. So, for the upcoming bullion investor out there, I would happily recommend this piece as a first purchase! -- Boris

Very nice! I've always been happy with provident metals. I'm probably going to place my order next week for a 1/10 AGE when I get home from Vegas. If I come home with anything. Come to think of it, I should probably just place my order now hehe.

Nice, gold Eagle 1/10th eh. I like and use Provident as well, and agree the only con is their shipping cost, but it is insured at least, and shows up fast. That probably is not 9 bucks worth, but small price to pay for fast first class products IMO.... Mt first one showed up yesterday as well. A 1988 proof with blue box and coa, what a gem at $190, and I saw like 2 others on ebay same year for 250 retail buy it now! And I am gonna get another one real soon, or perhaps something different here next, not sure yet.... I am gonna post pictures in my picture collection thread....

Congrats! I got my first 1/10 oz a few months ago, but before I got it UPS left it on some strangers porch a few blocks away...apparently my UPS driver can't tell what street he is on half the time even with modern GPS technology and since the house numbers matched he left it there lol. Lucky for me this was the second time it happened and I knew to go looking at all the houses around me with the same number to see if they had seen it. They had even opened it up to see what it was, of course they didn't bother to try to find me.

Maybe it's just me but I would not be going to other houses with the same number. I would be looking for that bozo of a delivery guy... and I would NOT be happy! GRRR!

Very nice, the 1/10th size AGE is great, a detailed tiny coin. I enjoy the burnished versions made from 2006-2008, mintages less than 25K each and for the same price as the bullion versions. These have the "W" mint mark.

Maybe this is a question for a separate thread but what is the difference between a burnished and non-burnished coin? Is it quite dramatic?

The burnished Eagles have a softer satiny finish compared to the bullion Eagles but they also have the all-important W mintmark. I purchased a 2006W when they were first issued and it came in an airtite with a blue velvet pouch and mint box.

I have the same problem, usually with Fed-Up, tho. I call their TF #, where "we show that was delivered yesterday, the driver left it on the side porch by the ladder." Great, since I have neither a ladder nor a side porch, I suggest you find wherever he took it and deliver it to the address on the package.

Don't ask me why, but small (quarter ounce and under) gold coins have a real "cool" factor that makes them even more appealing than you might expect.

The UPS guy who delivers to our house is one of the good ones... never had any problems with him and delivering packages to the right place. I once sent a package from work via UPS, though, and had the box clearly market with the SENDER and RECEIVER addresses. Yup... they delivered it to the SENDER address.

The last ups delivery I had they handed it off to the USPS once in state. But UPS is notorious for leaving packages on the porch by the door. I have 5 1986 1/10 bu and 2 1986 1-oz proofs,1-86 1/4 oz bu. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy your gold.
