I believe it's Portuguese. "Good for 50c at the counter". Or something like that. I found 2 others on the web, both with diff. initials.

I believe that is Spanish language. I had a Vale por on a token before, I think it was a Cuban Sugar plantation token, vale por una racione (I think that was it?). If memory serves, vale por meant essentially good for.

It's Spanish - "mostrador" translates literally to "the one who shows", so "Worth 50 to bearer" is a reasonable translation.
