I was just in my local coin shop this morning and on his board listing his daily silver/gold buy price he also listed copper pennies. He is buying at one and one Half Cents each and selling at Two Cents each. He just sold a $50 face bag this morning. As more dealers do this the copper pennies will continue to disappear.

Well, for me I'm seeing slightly less in circulation, and seeing the same amount while roll searching. But, I'm sure that will change as time passes on.

I just found two Canadian pennies from the 1960s and early 1970s and they are suppose to be 98% copper.

I'm trying (not so successfully) to put a set of Kennedy halves together from rolls. After finding several different markings from previous searchers on the coins, I've begun to weigh rolls too! And yes I shake and rattle.

I'm glad to see others hoarding these too. Beginning to think I was a weirdo. I guess my thinking is if copper is ever to be removed from coinage they will follow a similar path of the dime and quarters. I may be way off here, but who knows.

I've been going through about $50 a week now for almost a year. I update my blog fairly regularly with results. Over the last year, I've seen my average dwindle from about 15% being pre-1982 to now averaging just under 14%.
I would dearly love to find a dealer buying at 1-1/2. That would probably force me to go get a Ryedale (or build something similar on my own). Heck - that's free money right there.

I love the post that you "weigh the rolls" first. The only problem is that you will be more likely disappointed when you get to the "lightest" rolls. I have been separating copper pennies for years also. I have never seen any dealer offering more than face yet for copper pennies. But I know it will come.

Quote: Beginning to think I was a weirdo. Not really. It seems like most people on here hoard coppers. I don't (except for wheats or anything older, errors, BUs, etc.), so I kind of feel like the weird one lol

I've sold $600 FV in copper cents in the last few months so expect to see less and less as the years go by.

I have noticed a little bit of a downturn in the CU amounts out of a $25 box. My averages have slipped to around 19%. Just wish I had more time to sort them out.

I've been sorting, hoarding, and selling for quite sometime. I haven't seen too much of a dip copper percentages as of yet. What I have seen is a large increase of sorters and hoarders increasing in the past year or two. Should be interesting to see what happens. I'm starting to think there is going to be an exponential increase of penny hoarders on many different levels in the near future. Especially with inflation climbing as it has been these days.
