Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone had an 1873 5 cent coin from Newfoundland in EF-40 or better that they'd be willing to part with, or atleast post pictures of? Speaking of Newfoundland coins, I'm so happy that these issues are back in every single issue of CCN Trends!

That is a hard coin in VG or better try the Canadian Numismatic Company or some other well known dealer. Expect to pay top value. I can't remember ever seen one in that grade if I did it was a long time ago and probably sold super fast. If there are few out there they are most likely in PERMANENT collections and don't even bother trying to prying one out.

Sorry did you mean the regular 1873 or the 1873H? You may want to purchase the 2011 ICCS population report that will give you a great idea of what is out there. Some coins have been resubmitted a few times so the population numbers may not reflect EXACT reality but still will give a good idea. You can find a copy on ebay: Item number: 350451629245 or 370489758969

Hi Matrix1980,
I already own a copy of the ICCS population report from 2011. Thanks for the recommendation. To clarify, I am talking about the plain 1873. It is probably just as tough as the 1873H with none known in mint state grades. If anyone has the AU-55 example, could you please post pictures. I'd love to see what this coin looks like. Thanks everybody.

I am 99.99% sure I know the fellow who owns that coin he owns probably either the best or second best collection from that province.

He lives in Toronto. As far as I know he his a ultra busy man and a top professional in his field of work so you can imagine what I mean. But rest assured he has the best out there when it comes to almost any coin.
He deals a great deal with Proof Positive coins and C&P maybe contact them and see if they have one for sale or know someone that is willing to sell. I will not give out his name for obvious reasons.

Thanks, Matrix. If I was in your position, I would not disclose the person's identity either.

A dealer at the Sacramento show had an 1873H in Fine ... not a bad looking coin if I remember. He had just bought it in a collection a few days before. I think I have his card somewhere ... if you are interested can try to dig it up... but it probably is not a high enough grade for you.
