1989 Nickel Error Or PMD? - Coin Community Forum

dumprat Valued Member United States 460 Posts	Posted 05/20/2011 1:44 pm So I was roll searching a while back and found this. Finally decided to ask the experts as to why it is dark like this. Double Mint Pillar of the Community United States 810 Posts	Posted 05/20/2011 3:11 pm Looking at the outside of the first picture where the coin touches the other it seems you can see the color of what appears to be a normal nickel under the dark color. I would say its some sort of chemical coating or heat. But wait for an expert to chime in because I'm probably wrong. Report this Post to the Staff
