So I was roll searching a while back and found this. Finally decided to ask the experts as to why it is dark like this. What do you all think... PMD, toning, error, something else?

Maybe it is a black beauty?

Looking at the outside of the first picture where the coin touches the other it seems you can see the color of what appears to be a normal nickel under the dark color. I would say its some sort of chemical coating or heat. But wait for an expert to chime in because I'm probably wrong.

That is kind of what I thought (heating, chemical) but was not sure. Figured I would check with the all mighty gurus before I chucked it back in.

I would say Enviremental damage.Most nickels I find metal detecting are this color or even darker.IMHO

Bleach It may have went through the wash in heavy bleach.
