triggersmob Pillar of the Community Australia 9375 Posts	Posted 10/27/2006 11:51 am On a lot of Asian notes (and maybe others I don't know), they have a letter over the top of a number in front of the main serial number. As well as, I don't think most Modern Asian notes use such numbering system anymore. In the past, Malaysia and Singapore used to do that but both don't do that any longer, perhaps because it's just too difficult to read. Sap Moderator Australia 16808 Posts	Posted 11/05/2006 12:08 am Yup, it's just a different, old-fashioned sort of way of setting out the prefix letters/numbers. I suppose it allowed for more flexibility; if you ended up printing an awful lot of notes, you could easily extend either the top letters or bottom numbers to two or even more characters without re-working the whole layout of the serial numbers. Australian predecimal banknotes have the same feature. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S.
